He should have ranked among the top 1,50,000 in this exam, all categories included and the percentage of the total number of candidates for various categories include, 50.5% for GEN from the common merit list, 27% for the OBC-NCL, 15% for the SC and 7.5% for the ST and within each of these four categories, there is 3% horizontal reservation for PWD candidates also. The other eligibility criteria for IIT JEE Advanced include the age limit which is, the student should have been born or after October 1, 1985, for those belonging to SC, ST and PwD and October 1, 1990, for other categories.

Also, the number of previous attempts matter. Those who have attempted more than two times cannot attend the exam. The other majorly looked after criteria are that the student should have passed the 12th standard or any equivalent qualification. The student can also be the one who is appearing for this exam this year, to attend this exam for the year 2017.
